Flood Relief Amount : The central government has announced 276 crore rupees as relief for the Migjam storm and the floods in South District.

Two storms hit Tamil Nadu last December 2023. First of all, the districts of Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur were affected by the floods due to Mijam storm and heavy rains. Similarly, in the second half of December, due to heavy rains in the south-east, people were affected by floods in the districts of Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari.

After the heavy rains in December, Tamil Nadu government had asked the central government for adequate relief funds to repair the storm flood damage. At that time, a central government team came to Tamil Nadu and inspected the flood-affected areas.

It was said that the Tamil Nadu government has asked the central government for about 38 thousand crore rupees to repair the flood damage.

But the Tamil Nadu government continues to say that the central government has not given the relief amount and that the central government has given only a small amount of the National Disaster Relief Fund which is usually given to the states every year. It is noteworthy that the government of Tamil Nadu has given Rs 6,000 per family to the flood-affected people.

At such a time, the central government has announced a separate relief amount for the Mijam storm and flood damage in South Tamil Nadu. According to this, the central government has approved Rs 285.54 crore for Migjam cyclone, Rs 397.13 crore for south Tamil Nadu flood and Rs 406.57 crore for Tamil Nadu National Disaster Fund.

In the first phase, the central government has approved to provide Rs 115.49 crores for Migjam storm floods and Rs 160.61 crores for South Tamil Nadu floods, totaling Rs 276 crores immediately.

Similarly, the central government has approved Rs 3,498 crore for drought relief in Karnataka, Rs 44 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund and Rs 3,454 crore in the first phase.

Lok Sabha elections are currently going on in Karnataka. It is to be noted that voting was held for 14 constituencies yesterday and elections for the remaining 14 constituencies will be held on May 7, and BJP is the opposition party in the state.
