Even though there are all government offices like DSP office, Collector’s office, Women’s police station, Prohibition Division in Kallakurichi city area, people are selling contraband in the area.
The public has complained to Kallakurichi MLA ADMK Senthil several times about this. The government administration did not notice the complaint in the context of his sending it to the authorities. In this situation, four people were born and died after drinking counterfeit liquor. More than 20 people are undergoing treatment at Kallakurichi Government Medical College in critical condition.
Karunapuram village is located on the banks of the Komuki river adjacent to Kallakurichi city. This village is inhabited by village bundle lifters. People from three wards are living in this area. It is a daily habit of the people of the area to drink alcohol after finishing their work.

Yesterday evening, the laborers had stomach ache after drinking alcohol during the night. They were immediately taken to the hospital this morning. Suresh (age 45), Praveen Kumar (25), Shekhar (60) and Jagatheesan (65) from Karunapuram died this morning at the Kallakurichi Government Medical College Hospital.
This incident started spreading like forest fire in Karunapuram village area this morning. As a result, more than 20 people were admitted to the government hospital with abdominal pain after drinking liquor. They are also being treated at the hospital. Four of them are in critical condition.
Kannukutty, who has been selling liquor for the past 10 years, has now disappeared. The police have formed a special team to nab him. However, the district administration said that none of them died after drinking alcohol and the full details will be known only after the autopsy. So no one should get nervous, no one should spread rumours, no one should believe rumours.’
Meanwhile, political leaders including ADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, ADMK Founder President Dr Ramadoss, BJP State President Annamalai have issued a statement condemning the death of 4 people after drinking liquor in Kallakurichy.
Similarly, Kallakurichi Constituency ADMK MLA Senthil has strongly condemned. He also insisted that the family of the deceased should be given Rs 20 lakh each.
