Emigration and Immigration officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake yesterday evening arrested a person who is suspected to be the gunman of the shooting incident which took place in the Graceland
Estate in Horana on the same day morning while he attempted to leave for Dubai via BIA.
A 35-year-old businessman of the Horana area was injured in this shooting incident and was admitted to the Horana Base Hospital, Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa said.
Two individuals who came by a motorbike had opened fire at this businessman while he was in a cab and had fled the scene.
However, the Police said that they had been able to identify the shooter and the incident had taken place as a result of a personal issue between two parties. After the suspect was arrested at the BIA, he was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department officers at BIA. He has been identified as 31-year-old Janith Kumara of Kuda Uduwa, Horaketiya, Horana.
Emigration and Immigration officers had arrested him based on the information provided by the Alubomulla Police station. He had been arrested at the BIA premises while he was waiting to board the Dubai-bound FZ-550 Fly Dubai flight leaving at 5.35 p.m.
It has been revealed that the suspect had arrived in the country from Dubai on April 29. Police suspect that the arrested suspect had come to Sri Lanka in order to commit this crime and escape back to Dubai.
A Police team of the Alubomulla police had taken the suspect into their custody from CID custody to conduct further investigations.
