Last year, 19,640 dogs were caught in the Chennai Corporation and 14,885 of them were sterilized. Similarly, 11,997 dogs were caught till July this year and 8,539 of them were sterilized.

Regarding this, the officials of the Corporation Health Department said: Currently, a census of dogs is being taken in the Chennai Corporation. Animal Breeding Rules state that lactating dogs and pregnant dogs should not be bred.
Chennai Corporation is planning to increase the number of new breed control centers to control the dog population.

Therefore, 3 new ethnic control centers have been set up at Pulianthoppu, Lloyds Colony, Kannamma Petty. These will be rolled out this month. Through this, an average of 85 dogs can be neutered daily. Existing dog sterilization centers are also being restructured.
A new ethnic control center is being built at Perungudi, Manali. When all these come into use, 210 dogs can be bred daily.
9.45 crore fund
In this situation, 11 additional veterinarians and 94 workers have been appointed for this purpose. 7 dog catching vehicles are to be procured. They said that a total fund of Rs.9.45 crore has been allocated for this purpose.
