“According to the investigations conducted so far, it has been revealed that an attack was launched against Haniyeh from outside the guest house where he was staying with a short-range missile carrying about 7 kg of explosives,” the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement released yesterday.
Haniyeh was assassinated earlier last week while on his way to attend the inauguration of Iran’s president. Iran has alleged that the plan devised by Israel was carried out with the support of the United States.
Israel has not yet commented on Haniyeh’s death. Several Iranian military officers have been arrested or suspended since his killing, the New York Times reported.
It noted that Iranian intelligence is currently investigating Haniyeh’s death.
The security guards of the house where he stayed are being interrogated. Their mobile phones and other electronic devices have been confiscated. The press release also mentioned that security procedures for Iranian political leaders have been completely overhauled.
In this case, it has been mentioned in the announcement made yesterday that the work of selecting a new leader to replace Haniyeh has started.
