Bangladesh student protest; No harm to Sri Lankan students

– Curfew in effect across the country

Due to the unrest in Bangladesh, steps have been taken to ensure the safety of Sri Lankan students there, the Ministry of External Affairs has said.

The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that the government is keeping an eye on about 50 Sri Lankan students studying in Bangladeshi universities and none of them have been harmed so far.

Universities have been closed and curfew imposed due to student protests. In this case, it has been revealed that the Sri Lankan students are staying in their hostels.

Bangladesh government has not yet issued any notification to foreign students to go to their home country. As a result, Sri Lankan students have stayed in their hostels, the Bangladesh High Commission there has informed.

A curfew has been imposed across Bangladesh as student protests to change the government job allocation system have intensified.

International media also reported that 105 people have died in the clashes between the protesters and the police.

It is noteworthy that despite the curfew being enforced, the army has been called in to ensure security, but the student union representatives have announced that they will continue their protests.

It is noteworthy that the protestors are insisting that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should take responsibility for the death of the protestors and resign immediately.
