Savukku Shankar | Coimbatore: Sub-Inspector Sukanya filed a complaint with the Coimbatore Cybercrime Police, alleging that famous political commentator Chavuk Shankar, in an interview to a YouTube channel, had defamed police officers and made sexist comments about women policemen.
Arrest
A case under 5 sections was registered against political commentator Chavku Shankar on this complaint. Following this, the Coimbatore Cybercrime Police arrested Chawku Shankar in Theni on the 4th and put him in the Central Jail.
Theni district Palanisettiapatti police registered a case against Chavku Shankar and his driver Ramprabu and Rajaratnam who were staying with him for hoarding ganja. In this case, the police arrested Ram Prabhu and Rajaratnam and put them in jail.
Investigation
Since Chavku Shankar was in Coimbatore jail, permission was obtained to arrest him and produce him in court. Subsequently, the police produced Chavku Shankar in the special anti-narcotics court in Madurai on Wednesday. Then Judge Sengamalachelvan asked, “Would you like to say anything about the case against you?”
Chavuk Shankar replied, “This is a false case. The police beat me severely in the Coimbatore jail. This caused me to break my arm and leg. It should be arranged for proper treatment. There are threats to my life in Coimbatore jail. Due to this, I have to be transferred to Madurai Jail,” he said.
The judge then said that if they file a petition regarding their request, it will be sent to the authorities. Subsequently, Judge Sengamalachelvan ordered that Chavku Sankara be remanded in judicial custody till the 22nd. Subsequently, the police remanded him in the Coimbatore jail.
Hospital admission
In this case, his lawyer complained to the court that Shankar was beaten with a whip in jail and his hands were fractured. On the basis of the complaint, the Legal Affairs Commission lawyers and the Government Medical Committee went to the jail and conducted an investigation based on the court order. The report was submitted separately to the court.
On the basis of that report, the court ordered treatment for Chavku Shankar. Subsequently, Chavku Shankar has been admitted to Coimbatore Government Medical College Hospital. He is being treated there.
