In a letter written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin expressed regret that the allocation of funds for Southern Railway projects under some account heads in the regular budget of Indian Railways for the financial year 2024-2025 is disappointing and is very less compared to the allocations made in the interim budget of the same year.

Also, under Account Head 11-New Routes, an interim allocation of Rs. 976.1 crore, only Rs 301.3 crore has been allocated in the regular budget allocation, and Rs 1,928.8 crore has been allocated in the regular budget allocation against the interim allocation of Rs 2,214.4 crore under account head 15-dual-tracking, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin has pointed out. .
In the above budget allocation, Rs 674.8 crore has been drastically cut in the allocation for new road projects in Tamil Nadu.
The progress of several major projects under way will be severely affected, such as Tindivanam – Senchi – Thiruvannamalai, Tindivanam – Nagari, Attipattu – Puttur, Erode – Palani, Chennai – Cuddalore – Mahabalipuram, Madurai – Thoothukudi (route – Aruppukkottai), Sriperumbudur – Kuduvanchery. Chief Minister M.K.Stalin has said that 7 major projects – Irungat Fort – Aavadi – Sriperumbudur will be affected.
Likewise, the Chief Minister mentioned that the reduction in the allocation of funds for the double track projects to Rs 285.64 crore will definitely delay the implementation of the most essential double track projects in Tamil Nadu. In that respect, Villupuram – Dindigul, Thiruvallur – Arakkonam (4th lane), Omalur – Mettur Dam, Thiruvananthapuram – Kanyakumari, Madurai – Maniachi – Thoothukudi, Maniachi-Nagarkovil, Salem – Magnesite Junction – Omalur, Katpadi – Villupuram, Salem – Karur. – Dindigul, Erode – Karur, Chennai Beach – Chennai Egmore, Arakkonam Yard Road 1 and 2, 3rd and 4th route connection projects will be affected, the Chief Minister said.
Also, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin said that he would like to highlight the major issues pending in the Southern Railway in relation to Chennai and its surrounding areas, especially the work of Clambakkam bus station, electric bus services, handing over the Perundral High Speed Rail project to the state government should be expedited without any delay.
