On behalf of Coimbatore Corporation, renovation work will be started at Ukkadam Bus Stand with ₹20 crore allocated by the Tamil Nadu Government.
Ukkadam Bus Stand
Bus drivers and public have been demanding for expansion of Ukkadam bus stand in Coimbatore for a long time. A part of the existing bus station had to be demolished for the flyover project being constructed by the State Highway Department.
Various changes
The Ukkadam Bus Stand has undergone various changes over the past decade to accommodate projects such as the relocation of the depot to make way for the Ukkadam Sewage Treatment Plant. In this regard, Corporation Commissioner Sivaguru Prabhakaran conducted inspections at Ukkadam bus stand. Then he said:-
Detailed project report
A detailed project report is prepared for the bus stand survey and all the deficiencies in the existing facilities are noted. Stakeholders’ suggestions are sought while preparing the DPR.
The municipal administration is planning to expand the parking area to accommodate 60 two-wheelers in addition to the existing 75 two-wheelers.

Toilets
In this regard, a corporation official said that the entrance and exit points of the bus stand will be demolished and rebuilt to improve bus traffic. Ukkadam bus station will have new toilets, overhead shades and additional benches for people waiting for buses.
