Oruvar ” director Simbudevan’s concept is interesting but slow and dull. Based on Ernest Hemingway’s ‘The Old Man and the Sea’, it is set in Chennai in 1943. The story follows 10 diverse men stranded at sea who board a boat to escape Japanese bombing.
A satire using metaphors that nothing much has changed even after 80 years in our country, society and politics, which are divided by religion, caste, food and language! The much-maligned British handed over power to new rulers who believed in the principle of divide and rule.
The movie totally belongs to Yogi Babu and he is amazing as Kumar. MS Bhaskar, Gauri G Kishan, Kullapuli Leela etc. have acted appropriately. The elegant production design especially the oar-driven boat. The boat is similar to the monotonous fall of the waves, but different at the same time,” he commented.
