Chennai: In 2017, during the AIADMK rule, Chief Minister M. K. Stalin and DMK MLAs, who was then the leader of the opposition party, took Gutka and other tobacco products into the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. They said that Gutka was brought to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to mention the allegation that the use of tobacco and Gutka has increased in Tamil Nadu.
DMK MLAs including M.K.Stalin were sent a notice by the Legislative Rights Recovery Committee for carrying banned items in the Legislative Assembly.
Against this, a case was filed on behalf of the DMK in the Madras High Court. At that time, the single judge bench of the Madras High Court canceled the notice sent by the infringement committee.
Challenging the order of the Special Judge, the AIADMK again filed a case in the High Court. The case was taken up for hearing before a bench comprising Justices SM Subramaniam and C. Kumarappan and the verdict was delivered today.
A two-judge bench of the Madras High Court has ordered the Speaker to take appropriate action regarding the notices sent by the Violation Committee on DMK MLAs during the AIADMK regime.
