What should be the pH of the skin?

How does pH help the skin?

It usually has a pH between 5 and 5.5. Because this level is considered balanced in keeping your skin healthy.

How does pH affect the skin?

It is very important to balance the pH of our skin. This means keeping the acid mantle on top of the skin healthy and ensuring the skin functions. Disturbing your skin’s pH and acid mantle can lead to skin problems like dryness, tightness or acne.

If your skin feels tight and slightly dry after washing your face with soap or cleanser, it may be acidic. This is probably because you bought it by smell. This dryness occurs because the soap removes the acid mantle.

Even when the pH level is disturbed, a healthy skin balances the pH again in an average of 30 to 60 minutes. But if there is a disorder in the skin, the skin may not be able to repair itself naturally.

How to maintain pH level in skin?

If you use products that are too acidic (pH < 2.5) or too alkaline (pH > 8), the skin will take longer to repair itself. It also increases sensitivity, swelling and redness on the skin. Highly alkaline products are especially bad for your skin.
At high (alkaline) pH levels, the enzymes that break down collagen, which helps keep skin looking young, can over-act and cause you to age your skin prematurely.
So when buying a soap or cleanser, choose a non-alkaline and non-acidic product.

What to do after using soap or cleanser on the skin?
