On the occasion of Independence Day in Ekanapuram under the leadership of Women’s Assistance Program Officer Egilvihi today
A resolution was passed in the Gram Sabha meeting held against the Parantur New International Airport project. While the villagers of Ekanapuram have already boycotted the village council and passed a resolution in protest 7 times, the resolution has been passed for the 8th time today.
Parantur
Chennai has an airport at Meenambakkam. In this situation, Chennai’s second green outdoor airport is to be set up in Parantur area of Kanchipuram district covering 13 villages and covering more than 4700 acres.
Villagers struggle
Some villages, including Ekanapuram, are protesting against the project. Villagers have been protesting in Ekanapuram for 752 days continuously in the evenings.
Several rounds of negotiations have been held with ministers and district collectors. Resolutions have been passed in the Gram Sabha meetings opposing this project 7 times.
Ekanapuram
Similarly, the people of Ekanapuram are boycotting the 6 times Gram Sabha meetings, including the special Gram Sabha. At this stage, land acquisition offices for the airport project were opened. Separate officers were also appointed for this purpose. The owners of the land have been informed about the plan and their comments are being sought.
Village council meeting
In this situation today, a village council meeting was held in Ekanapuram in the presence of Women’s Assistance Program Officer Egilvizhi on the occasion of Independence Day. In this, resolutions regarding village development projects were passed.
Resolution
A resolution was passed on behalf of the villagers protesting against the Parantur New Green International Airport project, which enslaves agricultural lands and houses and turns them into refugees.
Out of the Gram Sabha meetings held so far in Ekanapuram, 6 Gram Sabha meetings have been boycotted. It is noteworthy that in 8 Gram Sabha meetings including this time, resolutions have been passed demanding and protesting the abandonment of the new green space airport project at Parantur.
