Chennai: Former Indian Army officer killed in attack on United Nations vehicle in Rafah
A former Indian Army officer working for the United Nations Security Department was killed in an attack on his vehicle in Rafah, Gaza Strip. The attack was reportedly carried out by the Israeli army.
It is said to be the first time an international UN staff member has died since the Israel-Hamas conflict began. At least 35,091 Palestinians have been killed and 78,827 injured in Gaza so far, according to the UN Office (OCHA).
Colonel Vaibhav Anil Kale, who retired from the Indian Army in 2022, is said to have joined the UN Security Council (DSS) as Security Coordination Officer two months ago.
