In the state of Karnataka, long distance bus services are provided by the State Government Transport Corporation known as KSRTC. There are different types of services in use from normal buses to premium type buses with AC facilities. KSRTC management has decided to introduce new Airavat bus service. A prototype Volvo 9600 bus was recently handed over to the Transport Corporation.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inspected this in person. It is a premium class bus. It has AC facility. A bus costs Rs 1.8 crore. It is expected to be available in the next 3 or 4 months. Officials have said that the facility in this bus will attract many people. It has a particularly Scandinavian design.
