Landslide kills 11 at illegal gold mine in Indonesia

11 people died in a landslide caused by heavy rains in the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. Also, 45 people are missing.

The incident took place on Sunday (07) in Korondalo area there. In this, not only the employees who worked in the mine but also the people living nearby died. This has been confirmed by the local authorities. A total of 164 army, police and rescue forces are involved in searching for the missing people.

Rescuers have to walk for about 20 kilometers. It is reported that the reason for this is due to the continuous rain and the road is surrounded by mud. According to the authorities, only if there is an advantage to carry out the rescue work using the machine, the work will be done.

79 people are engaged in mining for gold. He has carried out this mining work in the traditional way. That’s when the landslide occurred due to rain. Abdul Muhari, spokesperson of the Disaster Management Agency, said that a flood warning had been issued in the area due to the rain.

Rainy season in Indonesia is from November to April. Landslides are common these days. But it is reported that rain in July is very rare.
