A bus carrying electronic voting machines caught fire in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The voting machines were destroyed in the fire.
A bus carrying voting machines caught fire on its way from Gawla to Multai.
The fire that broke out near Kola village around 11 pm is said to have been caused by a spark in the bus. The vehicle was completely engulfed in flames, though all polling staff and the driver escaped unhurt, confirmed Betul District Collector Narendra Suryavanshi.
Meanwhile, four electronic voting machines carried in the bus were reportedly damaged and two machines were recovered safely
A total of 72.65 percent votes were recorded in Betul Lok Sabha constituency. Collector Suryavanshi said that he is going to report to the Election Commission about the impact of this incident on the number of votes recorded in the damaged electronic voting machines.
Officials also said that the commission has a decision on whether re-polling is required for the polling stations affected by the accident.
At the time of the accident, 36 employees broke the windows of the bus and got out, avoiding loss of life.
