Mahindra’s 5-door Tar model is currently undergoing final testing. Mahindra currently sells only the 3-door Thar model in India. The company has been rumored for the past few years to be working on a 5-door Tar.
In this case, Mahindra is planning to launch a new 5-door model on August 15. Meanwhile, the 5-door tar model has been spied on during testing. Mahindra is going to release this 5-door Thar model under the name of Thar Armada.
Mahindra Thar Armada: What Changes to Expect?
The biggest change in this Armada model is the doors. It’s something everyone knows. While the current Thar on sale has 3-doors, the new Thar Armada will offer five doors with four doors at the sides and 1 door at the rear. The spyshot Armada model is expected to be the top-end variant.
It gets 19-inch diamond cut alloy wheels. Armada customers also have a wide range of wheel options to choose from. Mahindra will launch the Armada model as an upgrade from the 3-door Tar. So, we can expect a complete redesign both front and rear.
Mahindra Thar Armada: Features?
Features of the new Thar Armada include LED lights, fully digitized instrument cluster, 10.25 touchscreen infotainment system, push button start-stop, center seat armrests, sunroof and rear ac vents.
Safety features include six airbags and a 360-degree camera. Along with this, ADAS facilities including Smart Pilot, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automotive Emergency Braking, Traffic Sign Detection, Driver Distraction Detection and Lane Keep Assist will also be provided.
Mahindra Thar Armada: Engine and Price
The 5-door Armada model weighs slightly more than the Thar 3-door model. So, Mahindra is going to give the new Thar Armada the engine used in their another SUV Scorpio N model.
Accordingly, the Thar Armada will get 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine options. Both these engines are capable of producing 175hp and 203hp respectively. Like the 3-door Thar, the Thar Armada will have 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive options.
While the current 3-door Thar model on sale starts at Rs 11.35, the new Thar Armada is expected to be launched with a starting price of Rs 15 lakh. This is slightly more than the company’s other SUV, the Scorpio N model.
