Metro rail route to Avadi; Agreement to prepare detailed project report

Chennai A contract worth Rs 80.48 lakh was signed on Wednesday to prepare a detailed project report for the Koyambedu to Avadi metro rail line.

It is proposed to build a high level metro rail line from Chennai Coimbatore to Avadi via Badi and Ambattur for a distance of about 16 km. The works are expected to be completed by November 2024.

A press release issued by the Chennai Metro Rail Administration said:

A contract worth Rs.80.48 lakh was signed to M/s RITES for preparation of detailed project report for introduction of metro train from Chennai Coimbatore to Avadi via Badi Pudunagar, Ambattur and Tirumullaivayal. Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for this was issued to M/s RITES on 11.06.2024.

Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Company M.A. Siddiqui IAS, Project Director. In the presence of Archunan, Chief General Manager D. on behalf of Chennai Metro Rail Company. Livingstone Eleazar, (Project Planning and Design), and Sudeep Kumar Gupta on behalf of M/s RITES signed the agreement.

Chief General Manager Rekha Prakash, (Planning and Design), Chennai Metro Rail Corporation and senior officers and employees of M/s RITES were present at the signing ceremony for the preparation of detailed project report for Koyambedu-Aavadi Metro Rail Line.

The route is proposed to be approximately 16 km long with 15 high-level metro stations. A detailed plan report is being prepared for this route, taking into consideration IT parks, industrial and densely populated areas.

Over 30 locations will be excavated for soil and topographic survey along the entire length. The works are expected to be completed by November 2024. Details of total number of stations and land requirements will be finalized after detailed project report, detailed alignment survey, it said.
