Mettur : Due to the heavy rains in Karnataka, the dams there are full, so water has been released to Tamil Nadu through Cauvery. Due to this, yesterday’s price reached 100 feet in Mettur team, as of this morning it touched 107 feet.
In this case, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin held a video conference from the Chief Secretariat regarding the release of water from Mettur dam for delta irrigation this morning. The meeting was attended by Water Resources Minister Durai Murugan, Water Resources Secretary Manivasakan and District Collectors.
In this consultative meeting, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mu Kastalin consulted in detail regarding when to open water in Mettur dam for delta irrigation and various measures to be taken if the water is opened.
According to the decision taken in this meeting, the Chief Minister has ordered to open the Mettur Dam at 3 pm today (28-07-2024) so that the water coming to the Mettur Dam can be properly used. Accordingly, in the first phase, 12 thousand cubic feet of water is going to be released. After that it will be raised gradually depending on the water supply.
Chief M.K.Stalin has advised the District Government Heads and officers of various departments that the water will be released and the precautionary measures will be taken and the farmers should use this water in a good manner, store water in lakes and ponds and take all necessary measures to enrich the ground water immediately.
