If there’s one car that sells at par with Maruti’s affordable cars in India, it’s Renault’s Kwid. Renault has achieved what no other company could with Quit. A car under Rs.5 lakh. Now it has been reported that the company may launch an electric car similar to the Kwid model in India.
The Kwid EV being tested:
Renault is currently testing the compact electric car sold in the European markets as the Dacia Spring EV on Indian roads. The company is expected to launch the car in India as the Kwid EV.
The Dacia brand is a subsidiary of the Renault Group that manufactures and sells cars in European countries. Renault is soon going to release the new generation Dacia Duster model which was sold under this Dacia brand as Renault Duster.
Renault’s plan for India:
Renault announced their plans for India in early 2024. The company had announced that it will launch two new SUVs and an electric car in India.
Among the two SUVs, one is expected to be the Renault Duster and the other a three-row Pixar based on the Duster. The new Kwid EV is expected to be the electric car announced by the company.
Renault Kwid EV (Tacia Spring EV):
Instead of looking like an EV, the Spring EV looks more like a conventional fuel car. The front features a charging port, split headlight setup, squared-off wheel arches, and shark fin antenna.
Renault Kwid EV: Features
The Dacia Spring EV model features a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a minimalistic center console, a three-spoke steering wheel, and V2L (Vehicle 2 Load). It is expected that these features will be offered in the Indian Kwid EV model as well. However, these features may not feature in the Indian Kwid EV model in order to keep the price down.
Renault Kwid EV: Range and Performance
The Dacia Spring EV is available in global automobile markets with a 26.8kWh battery pack. Offering a range of 225 km, this model is powered by an electric motor that produces 65hp of power and 113Nm of torque.
Capable of reaching a top speed of 125 kmph, the car can be charged via a 7kW standard AC charger or a 30kW DC fast charger. If you charge this car with a 150kW fast charger, it will charge from 20% to 80% in 40 minutes.
Renault Kwid EV: Price
It is being sold as the cheapest electric car in European countries and the UK. In European countries, this electric car is being sold at a price of Rs. 18 lakhs in Indian value and in England at a price of Rs. 15 lakhs in Indian value.
The Renault Kwid petrol model is priced under Rs 5 lakh in India. The company cannot launch an electric car at such a low price. Renault is likely to launch a new Kwid EV model priced at Rs 10 lakh. We can expect the launch of this new electric car in 2025.
