It has been reported that a sports academy and skill training center is going to be set up at Chennai Marina beach at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore by the Tamil Nadu government. The Tamil Nadu government has applied for permission from the Coastal Regulatory Authority for this.

The sports academy is planned to be built on an area of about 2.75 acres at the mouth of the Coovam river. The academy is likely to be located on the site of a boat house on the marina beach 40 years ago.

Also this sailing academy is going to be a two-storied building. The Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority has applied for permission from the Coastal Regulatory Authority for this.
