Accordingly, the Canadian government has announced a further reduction in the number of study permits granted to foreign students. It has also tightened its foreign worker rules. It has been reported that many Indians will be affected by this.
Canadian President Justin Trudeau made the announcement on his Twitter page. Accordingly we are offering 35% fewer international student permits this year. “Next year, this number will decrease by another 10%,” he said.
But at the same time we cannot allow some people to take advantage of the students in the wrong way. That’s why we are changing the rules for admitting foreigners,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in his tweet.
According to Canadian immigration data, 5,09,390 people were admitted in 2023 and 1,75,920 in the first seven months of 2024. However, this new measure is expected to reduce the number of international study permits issued to 4,37,000 by 2025.
President Trudeau has taken this step as elections are held in Canada next year. Government of Canada aims to reduce PGWP by 1.75 lakh over the next three years by introducing 50,000 more spouse work permits through these strict rules. Thus post graduate students can only get a work permit for their spouse if they continue their post graduate studies for at least 16 months.
