Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday issued a foreign travel ban on ousted MP Diana Gamage over the fraudulent passport case being heard in the Chief Magistrate’s Court.
The order was issued by Court considering the request made by the aggrieved party that investigations into the case can be disturbed if the suspect leaves the country midway.
The Chief Magistrate ordered the Court’s Registrar to communicate the order on travel ban to the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration with immediate effect.
Referring to the Wednesday’s Supreme Court judgment over Diana Gamage’s parliamentary seat, attorneys Hafeel Farisz, Thusitha Gunasekara and Athula Ranagala appearing for the complainant Oshala Herath and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) requested Court to name Gamage as a suspect in this case and issue an order to arrest her.
They pointed out that Diana Gamage holds three passports including a Diplomatic Passport issued by the Government of Sri Lanka while being a British Citizen.
Considering all facts, the Magistrate informed that there is a possibility to name her as a suspect over this case and accordingly, the travel ban is issued. The case was postponed for July 11.
Social Activist Oshala Herath had lodged this complaint against Diana Gamage with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on November 2, 2020
