The month of Aadi is considered to be the month for Ambal. Although the Pooram Nakshatra comes every month, the Pooram Nakshatra in the month of Adi is celebrated as a special day. The word Puram means completeness. Purana says that on this day Umadevi incarnated. Andal is also said to have incarnated at Tulsi Matam in Srivilliputhur on this day. So this day is also celebrated as Andal Jayanti.
Puranas say that Siddhas and Yogis start their penance on this day. On this day, Andal Jayanti is celebrated with much fanfare as a 10-day festival with flag hoisting at Sri Williputhur. Aadipuram is a baby shower festival dedicated to Amman. On this day, many temples hold baby shower ceremonies for Amman.
Motherhood is a specialty of women. Just like baby showers are done for pregnant women during human birth, on this day the mother is also celebrated as a baby shower. A baby shower is held with bangles decorated like garlands and special decorations for the goddess.

This year Aadipuram will start on Tuesday 6th August at 5:45 PM and end on Wednesday 7th August at 8:30 PM. But it is to be celebrated on August 7th itself. Especially from 9:15 am to 10:15 am and then from 10:45 am to 11:00 am. Even up to 45 is said to be the best time to perform rituals.
