10-week training of Indian training teachers begins

Minister of State for Education Arunachalam Aravindakumar said that the Indian training teachers who have come to Sri Lanka will carry out a ten-week teacher training program in 40 centers of Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces in live training sessions and through virtual channels in centers belonging to Western, Southern and North-Western provinces.

This matter has been informed in the statement issued by the media department of the Ministry of Education regarding the training program of Indian teachers. The report further stated that,

A teacher training program for schools in the plantation regions has been introduced under a multi-sectoral Indian grant of 750 million rupees to commemorate the 200 years of the arrival of the Tamil community of Indian origin in Sri Lanka.

The program was announced during President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to India in July 2023.

Accordingly, a training program for teachers of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Biology has been implemented in Sri Lanka.

The program was officially launched on the 5th of last month at Alarimalikai.

Deputy High Commissioner of India Kalanidhi Satyanjal Pandey, senior officials from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Water Supply and Plantation Infrastructure Development, National Institute of Education, teacher trainers from India and more than 1,000 teachers from schools in the plantation regions of Sri Lanka participated in the event.
