The Sri Lankan Navy has arrested 22 Rameswaram fishermen for fishing across the border.
Rameswaram fishermen of Ramanathapuram district went fishing in more than 700 boats on the 14th after the fishing ban. Rameswaram fishermen did not go to the sea for more than 5 days from last 18th due to strong cyclone warning.
After this, the fishermen packed the ice, loaded the fishing equipment in the boats and got ready to go fishing. More than 3,000 fishermen in more than 500 boats from Rameswaram fishing harbor went to sea for fishing after getting permission token.
They were fishing in the middle of the sea around 10 pm. At that time, the Sri Lankan Navy, which arrived in two large patrol boats, suddenly surrounded the three boats of the Rameswaram fishermen.
Subsequently, 22 fishermen were arrested for catching fish across the border and their 3 boats were confiscated. According to the fishermen who returned to the shore today, due to the action of the Sri Lankan Navy, we did not engage in proper fishing in the sea and returned to the shore. Due to this, there has been a huge loss. The fishermen said that the Sri Lankan Navy has become unable to carry out fishing activities.
