Over the past few years, there has been a slight increase in the introduction of CNG cars by automakers. CNG cars are also sold as an optional extra to petrol/diesel and electric cars. There are various reasons why companies give importance to selling CNG cars and why customers buy them.
Importantly, CNG cars cause less air pollution than petrol cars. Also, CNG cars give better mileage than petrol cars. Both of these are important drivers for selling and buying CNG cars. Well, why its CNG variant is always Rs 1 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh more than the petrol cars.
The reason is that no car manufacturer directly manufactures CNG cars. Instead, they offer CNG cars only as an additional option. CNG gas is flammable and explosive. Although not a very unsafe gas to the extent of LPG, CNG is, in a sense, something that needs to be handled safely.
Therefore, it is necessary to develop a high quality CNG gas storage cylinder. Not only that, everything from the pipe to a small connection piece in the path of CNG gas must be leak-free. Also, the engine has to undergo minor modifications to suit the use of CNG. It should also be free of security flaws.
It is for this reason that its CNG variant carries a slightly higher price tag than the petrol cars. These kinds of minor changes add to the cost of production and the overall cost of the car. But customers can offset this cost in utility as the mileage is slightly higher than fuel cars.
As much importance is given to safety while manufacturing CNG cars, the same should be given to usability. CNG cars require a little more care and maintenance than fuel cars.
