The central government is providing 82 percent of the funds for the construction of this AIIMS hospital i.e. about ₹ 1127.70 crore by JICA, a Japanese company, while the central government is directly providing 18 percent of the assessment amount for the construction work.

In this situation, the construction works for other AIIMS hospitals announced across the country along with Madurai have been completed and Prime Minister Modi has inaugurated those hospitals, only Madurai AIIMS Hospital is standing still with environmental construction works.

In this case, L Andi, which has taken tender for the construction works of Madurai AIIMS Hospital, has recently started the works by fixing the contract period to complete the construction works in two phases in 33 months.

Environmental clearance:

Following this, an application was made to the Tamil Nadu Environment Department on May 2 on behalf of the AIIMS administration seeking environmental clearance for the construction works. The environmental expert assessment committee has recommended to the Tamil Nadu government that environmental clearance can be given to the Madurai AIIMS project on the tenth day in a row. It is expected that the Tamil Nadu government may grant environmental clearance to this project in a few days.

What are the conditions?

Meanwhile, the assessment committee has imposed certain conditions on the AIIMS management, which has environmental clearance for the construction work. That means there should be a structure to convert the waste into biogas for use in the hospital and for cooking in the canteen, proper disposal of medical waste, quality oxygen generation center should be set up, rain water drainage facility, children’s play area etc. should be ensured, electric vehicle charging facilities, waste The framework for water treatment and use stipulates that single-use plastics should not be used in the hospital premises.

Apart from this, it has also stipulated that an intensive care unit should be set up in Madurai’s hospital to provide immediate treatment to the victims of the Sivakasi Virudhunagar blast.
