Nirmala Sitharaman: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman participated in a discussion program on “Vision for Indian Finance Markets” at the Mumbai Stock Exchange. Then Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman discussed with stock market brokers about stock market investments and taxation.
At the event, a stockbroker asked central Nirmala Sitharaman a flurry of questions about how the central government’s taxation system was causing people great hardship. He also raised questions in the minds of many people of the country.
The stockbroker told Nirmala Sitharaman, “I invest in the stock market and I am taking a lot of risk. I pay long-term capital gains taxes like GST, IGST, STD, stamp duty. But my It is the central government that takes the entire profit and makes more money than the stock market brokers.
I invest everything and take risks. I am working partner. But the Indian government is just a sleeping partner and takes everything.
What are the taxes to be paid on buying a house? How much tax you have to pay when you buy a house through taxes like stamp duty, GST etc. How does the government help people with limited resources to buy houses? “How can an investor work by bypassing the taxes imposed by the government?” he questioned.
The broker called the government a ‘sleeping partner’ to point out that the central government gets money through higher taxation. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman responded with this quote. In his reply, he said, “I have no answer for this. A ‘sleeping partner’ cannot sit here and answer.” He said with a smile.
In this situation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s answer has come under severe criticism. High taxes on stock market transactions and real estate market have hit investors hard. Therefore, criticisms are coming as if Nirmala Sitharaman should have given the right answer to this question.
