Om Birla vs Kodikunnil Suresh in Lok Sabha Speaker Election: Who will win Lok Sabha Speaker Election?

Speaker election will be held for the first time in the history of Parliament. Preparations for this are going on vigorously. Since the BJP had a single majority for the last 10 years, it arbitrarily chose the Speaker and put him in the chair.

Opposition parties are strong in Lok Sabha

But this time there is no single majority and coalition government is in place. Meanwhile, the strength of the opposition has increased in the Lok Sabha. Out of a total of 543 seats, the National Democratic Alliance has 293 and India Alliance 234. There are 9 other parties and 7 independents.

Election of Speaker

The election for the 18th Lok Sabha will be held tomorrow at 11 am. Om Birla is contesting on behalf of the National Democratic Alliance. He was the Speaker of the Lok Sabha last time. Suresh is fielding in Kodikunn on behalf of India Alliance.

Who is this Om Birla?

Belongs to the state of Rajasthan. He joined the BJP at a young age. He has served as Kota District BJP Youth Team President and State Team President. From 1997 – 2003, he was the BJP Youth National President. He contested from Kota constituency and became MLA for the first time.

After being an MLA for three times, he contested from the Kota Lok Sabha constituency in 2019 and became an MP for the first time. It was then that the post of Speaker came up. He became the first Lok Sabha Speaker elected from the state of Rajasthan. He is now contesting for the post of Speaker for the second time.

Who is this Kodikunnil Suresh?

He is serving as the working president of the Kerala Congress Committee. Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, he was a Union Minister in the Congress regime. He contested from Adur Lok Sabha constituency in 1989, 1991, 1996, 1999 and Mavelikara Lok Sabha constituency in 2009, 2014, 2019, 2024 and became an MP.

He has failed twice in between. In 2009, a controversy erupted as the caste certificate given by him was fake. In this regard, the Kerala High Court ordered that Suresh’s victory in Kodikunnil election be null and void. But the judgment was stayed on appeal to the Supreme Court. Thus he continued as MP again.
