Bamaka MLA GK Mani, speaking in the Legislative Assembly under the Department of Prohibition today, asked whether complete prohibition of alcohol is possible in Tamil Nadu. In response to this, Minister Muthuswamy said that the government is willing to implement complete prohibition of alcohol in Tamil Nadu.
He also said that there is currently no possibility of implementing complete prohibition in Tamil Nadu. He also said that the government has decided to reduce Tasmac shops in a phased manner with a view to bringing total prohibition. Next, he said that liquor from neighboring states like Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka should be stopped from coming to Tamil Nadu.
Earlier today, Minister Muthuswamy had filed an amendment in the Legislative Assembly to impose a fine of 10 lakhs and life imprisonment on those who sell counterfeit liquor.
