Diwali festival will be celebrated on October 31 this year. In view of this, people in various cities including Chennai used to go to their hometowns. Southern Railway has advised passengers to plan their journey 4 months in advance.
In this way, ticket booking for passengers going to their hometowns from Chennai on October 28 started last Sunday. The booking for the October 29 trains started at 8 am yesterday. This ticket booking was completed as fast as it started.
Trains leaving for southern districts were sold out within minutes and there was a waiting list. In this case, the ticket booking for the trains going on October 30 has started today on July 2. These tickets also sold out within minutes of the launch.
Ticket booking is done through IRCTC website and through train ticket booking centers. Ticket booking for trains going to Kanyakumari, Madurai, Dindigul, Thoothukudi, Nellai, Southern Districts was completed within 5 minutes. Passengers were disappointed.
Passengers have demanded that extra special trains should be run to facilitate their journey to their hometowns for the Diwali festival. Southern Railway is expected to run additional trains to southern districts near Diwali.
