Co-operative bank guard assaulted and attempted robbery near Devakota; District SB investigation

Gold jewelery worth several crores was saved after the police inspector Manikam, who was on patrol, brutally assaulted a security guard at Nagadi Primary Agricultural Co-operative Bank near Devakottai.

Nagadi Primary Agricultural Co-operative Bank is functioning on Sarugani Devakottai Road in Bhavanakottai village near Devakottai in Sivagangai district. More than 50 villagers in the area are using this bank.

Villagers in the area have been mortgaging gold jewelery with banks for agricultural loans.

In this case, last night (June 2) Velayuthapattanam Pro-Inspector Manikam and First Level Constable Rakesh came on patrol duty, when they usually take the signature of the bank guard at night, retired soldier Bhoominathan (65) of Ponnatti village sought the signature of the watchman last night. As the camera in the front of the bank was broken as a suspect, Sub-Inspector Manikam immediately searched around the bank and found the guard lying in a bush near the bank with serious injuries.

Deputy Superintendent Parthipan, who came to know about the incident, immediately came to the spot and rescued the guard and sent him to Devakottai Government Hospital. When they entered the bank, they tried to break the wall in the locker area where the jewelery was kept.

In the first phase of the investigation, the guard came to the bank as usual yesterday evening and opened the door, then they came from behind and brutally attacked the guard. Later, when he woke up, he said the police had stopped him.

District Superintendent Dongre Praveen Umesh reached the spot and conducted an investigation.

The robbers broke the CCTV cameras of the bank and then took away the hard disk of the bank.

A team of forensic experts from Sivaganga also collected fingerprints at the bank. Bhairavi was summoned from the Ramanathapuram district hall and sniffed around the bank and went to the nearest bus stand.

The police said that they have found important clues of the criminals and will release the criminals soon.
