The Tamil Nadu government has issued guidelines for higher education students to get a monthly scholarship of Rs.1,000 under the Tamil Putulavan scheme.

In this regard, the Secretary of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights Department, Jayashree Muralitharan, has said: “Students who have studied in government schools (English and Tamil medium), government aided schools (Tamil medium only) will be given a stipend of Rs. 1,000 till the time of obtaining their bachelor’s degree, vocational training and diploma education. The scheme is being implemented by the government.
The Government hereby provides certain instructions to the beneficiaries under the Central Aadhaar Act. Eligible student must have Aadhaar number to avail the benefit of this scheme. Or, should have applied for Aadhaar number. Students who do not have an Aadhaar number will have to visit the respective centers and apply to get the number.
In case of absence of Aadhaar number one needs to provide some other identification documents to get this scholarship.
Accordingly, identity card applied for Aadhaar number; Copy of application for Aadhaar number; Bank or post account book; PAN Card, Passport, Ration Card, Voter ID Card; Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme Card; Kisan Account Book; Driving license; An identity certificate issued by the Tahsildar or ‘Gazetted’ Officer, one of these should be provided.
The concerned educational institutions should also make necessary arrangements in this regard.
Educational institutions should publicize this information so that all students know it and advise them to go to the nearest Aadhaar centers to get Aadhaar number.
In case of an area where there is no Aadhaar centre, the concerned educational institutes should provide facilities to obtain Aadhaar number and help the students to register their applications,” it said.
