How much did each community benefit from reservation? The question raised by Ramadoss!

Ramadoss, founder of BAMA, said that it is the stand of Patali Makkal Party that the Tamil Nadu government should publish complete details about the representation of each community in education and employment.

In a statement issued by him in this regard, “The Government of Tamil Nadu has explained that Vanniyars have an additional 10.50% representation in education and employment in Tamil Nadu. The DMK government has tried to cover up the betrayals done to the Vanniyyas by publishing only a few selected statistics in a half-hearted and distorted manner. This fraud of the DMK government is condemnable.

According to the Ministry of Backward, Very Backward and Minority Welfare of Tamil Nadu government, the Ministry of Backward, Very Backward and Minority Welfare has released some details in response to the questions raised by the Kondayankot Maravan Sangam from Chennai under the Right to Information Act. The aim of the Tamil Nadu government is to create an impression that the Vanniars have got an additional representation of 10.50% in the 20% reservation for Other Backward Classes. However, the statistics released by the Tamil Nadu government are not complete; Half and twisted.

A few examples of them are:

1. The data released by the Tamil Nadu government does not contain any details about the representation of Vanniyars in the first batch of jobs selected by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission as Assistant Superintendents of Police, Assistant Commissioner of Commercial Tax Department, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Assistant Director of Rural Development, District Employment Officer etc.

2. The Tamil Nadu government claims that out of 542 Deputy Collectors currently working in Tamil Nadu, 63 or 11.60 percent are Vanniyars. This is a skewed statistic. Their representation should be determined by the number of Vanniyars selected for the post of Deputy Collector in the 20% reservation for the first batch of DNP, SC. That is social justice.

However, the Tamil Nadu government has provided the overall number of Vanniyars in the workforce. Two-thirds of them have joined the ranks of revenue inspectors and reached this position through promotion. They won’t even be in this job for a year or two. It is hypocritical to say that they were selected for the first batch of jobs based on reservation.

3. Tamil Nadu Government has claimed that the Vanniars have got more than 10.50% representation in the total 100% reservation, without disclosing the extent to which the communities benefited under the 20% reservation in Police Assistant Inspector appointments. There can be no greater deception than this. Even so, the other Most Backward Classes, the Seers together have 14.50% reservation.

4. The statistics relating to the appointment of teachers contain only the details of post-graduate teachers. Why is the government hiding the details of the representation of Vanniars in the posts of secondary teachers, graduate teachers, college teachers?

5. In 1989, a new reservation category of Most Backward Class was created in Tamil Nadu. The actual representation of the Vanniyars and other communities will be known only if the statistics from then to now are published. But, instead of publishing the statistics for the last 10 years, is it an act of cheating the Vanniyar community?

6. Block 1 and Block 2 jobs in Tamilnadu are somewhat higher level jobs. I would like to point out some statistics as to what is the position of Vanniyars among them…

Chief Minister M.K.Stalin recently gave job orders to 95 candidates who were successful in the examinations for the first batch of jobs conducted by the Tamil Nadu Government Staff Selection Board. Out of which 19 seats were reserved for the most backward classes. Among them, 10.50% of the Vanniyyas should have got 11 posts. But only 5 seats were available. It is only 5%. Is it enough for Vanniyars?

Similarly, the examination was conducted to fill 161 vacancies in block 2 jobs. Out of them 32 seats were reserved for the most backward classes. Among them Vanniyya should have got 17 seats. But, only less than eight seats are available. This is less than half of what should be available. If the reality is like this, the Tamil Nadu government’s claim that Vanniyars have got more than 10.50% representation is nothing but a fraud?

The Patali Makkal Party’s position is that the Tamil Nadu government should publish complete details of the representation of each community in education and employment in Tamil Nadu during the 35 years after 1989. The Patali People’s Party will be very happy if all the communities including the Vanniyars get representation equal to their population. However, the DMK government has been refusing to disclose those details for a long time.

In 2020, the High Court ordered the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Government Staff Selection Commission to publish the statistics obtained for each community in government employment. However, the Tamil Nadu government and the selection board said that if those details were published, there would be social unrest in Tamil Nadu. But why has the statistics about Vanniyars been published suddenly? Won’t there be social unrest now? It is the government’s intention to create an illusion that Vanniyars have got additional representation.

If any problem is to be diverted, it is the DMK government that dares to do anything for it. It is now trying to stage such a game. The people of Tamil Nadu are the ones who know all the scams of DMK. They will not be fooled by such silly games. DMK will get defeated in this too.

If the DMK government is interested in maintaining social justice in Tamil Nadu, what are the competitive exams conducted by each examination board in the 35 years from 1989 to now? What is the number of students enrolled in government institutes for vocational courses including medicine and engineering? What is the representation of each community in the reservation for each class? A white paper should be published on the representation of each community in the 31% reservation for the general category,” Ramadoss said.
