India’s neighboring country Bangladesh was ruled by Sheikh Hasina. In his regime, it was decided to bring a bill to provide 30 percent reservation for the heirs of freedom fighters. The student organization from that country protested against this. Around 400 people died when this protest erupted into violence. Sensing the intensity of the protests, Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister and took refuge in India in an army plane.
Following this, the interim government was formed yesterday under the leadership of Nobel Prize-winning teacher Muhammad Yunus. Along with the Bangladesh Army, they have started trying to pacify the protesters. Apart from this, Sheikh Hasina, who resigned as Prime Minister and took refuge in India, is planning to go to foreign countries like England or America.
It is said that the Government of India is giving full cooperation to this. In this situation, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy has called Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar on his cell phone. Now they are talking about which country Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, is going to settle. Both of them also discussed that countries like England and America are paying close attention to the issues of the interim government and the ongoing struggle in Bangladesh.
However, there has been no response from the Indian government regarding Sheikh Hasina’s foreign immigration and travel. Indian Foreign Ministry official Randhir Jayaswal said that Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country due to violence and took refuge in India, is consulting with Indian officials about seeking refuge abroad. But he categorically stated that in the current environment, nothing can be said about Sheikh Hasina’s travel plans as the violence has not come under control even though she has left the country.
He also said that publishing the next steps of Sheikh Hasina may even endanger her life. Information is being released that under the immigration law programs of the UK government, it is possible to apply for asylum only after entering the country and cannot apply for asylum in the UK as in other countries. Due to this, it is said that the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh has a problem in going abroad safely.
