Beedi leaves were found during a special search operation carried out yesterday (08) by Vijaya Navy of the North West Naval Command.
Meanwhile, 642 kg of beedi leaves were seized in 19 fertilizer bags in Kappiti Kandalkuzhi sea area.
Also, in Kapiti Uchimuna sea area, when a large number of fertilizer packages were found floating in the sea, the navy observed it and subjected it to inspection. During this, the navy seized 2,882 kg beedi leaves from 86 fertilizer bags.
The marines have said that the 105 compost bags containing beedi leaves seized have been handed over to the officials of the North-Western Province Excise Department for further legal action.
Meanwhile, the Navy has seized 689 kg of beedi leaves from a lorry parked in Puttalam-Erambugoda Kalapu area, the day before yesterday (08) on Thursday and it is also noteworthy that a suspect has been arrested.
