A/L classes to begin as soon as O/L Exams finish

Pre-Covid schedule to be restored

3,000 A/L teachers to be recruited

Provisional admission till results are released, for O/L students needing another school for A/Ls

This year, the Education Ministry has planned to start Advanced Level classes immediately after the end of the Ordinary Level Examination for the students who appeared for the examination.

Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha said that in order to cover the missed classes due to the closure of schools during the Covid pandemic and to restore the school examination schedule, the students appearing for the Ordinary Level Examination this year will have to start the Advanced Level classes immediately after the examination.

The Minister said this while participating as the chief guest at the launch of the official internet radio channel of the National Institute of Education (NIE Visual Radio) at the National Institute of Education, Maharagama.

Further commenting on this, the Minister said that to carry out this challenging task, teachers also need a strong commitment. For that purpose, 3,000 new teachers are already being recruited to teach Advanced Level science, mathematics, technology and foreign languages. It has been planned to complete the recruitment interviews this week.

However, as there is a problem of children in schools having only Grade 1 to 11 being admitted to another school to for the Advanced Level, approval will be obtained through a Cabinet paper and action will be taken to provide appropriate admission to the required schools until the children of those schools receive their results.

The Minister pointed out that the purpose of taking such measures is to prevent possible delays for schoolchildren to enter university and restore the academic activities that were missed during the Covid pandemic in a period of two years.

“Everyone’s support and dedication is essential in this regard to make it successful,” he noted.

Officials including UNICEF Sri Lanka representative Christian Skoog and the National Institute of Education (NIE) Director General Prof. Prasad Sethunga participated in the inauguration of the official internet radio channel of the NIE.
