Rare disease in pregnant woman:
A pregnant woman from Madhya Pradesh who developed Guillain Barre syndrome – GBS- AMSAN during childbirth has been fully cured after giving proper medication and treatment. At present, the mother and child are doing well, said Dr. Dharmaraj, Principal of Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital.
Admission to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital:
Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital Principal Dr. Dharmaraj said that a 26-year-old woman Rajgani from Madhya Pradesh moved to Idukki district of Kerala state with her husband a year ago due to her husband’s work.
During this time, she became pregnant for the 3rd time and on 29.06.2024 at 4.00 am a baby boy (weight: 2.3 kg) was born at home. Next day on 30th June at 5.00 in the morning due to seizure, Nedukandam was taken to Primary Health Center and given first aid and then sent to Theni Government Medical College Hospital.
Rajaji Hospital Doctors Achievement:
He was diagnosed with Postpartum Eclampsia at Theni Government Medical College Hospital and treated for it, and on 7th July around 8.00 pm he was sent to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital for further treatment due to non-functioning of both his legs and arms and shortness of breath.
After various medical tests, he was diagnosed with Guillian Barre syndrome (GBS-AMSAN) and was given IVIG for 5 days in the intensive care unit under the supervision of general practitioners of the medical department.
As a result of the treatment, the patient’s condition has now improved and his breathing has completely disappeared and his arms and legs have returned to function. Mother and mother are fine.
It is a rare disease affecting only 1.2 out of 1 lakh people. The patient can get rid of the nervous system completely if the advanced treatment is done at the right time,’ he said.
