The Avadi Police received information that a 19-year-old youth named Lokesh was involved in a drunken dispute in the Avadi Housing Board residential area of Tiruvallur District. Subsequently, Chief Constable Saravanan went to the spot and tried to arrest the young man who was involved in a drunken dispute.
Then the youth attacked the policeman and the public by throwing stones. As a result, policeman Saravanan immediately took a nearby log and attacked the drug addict. Enraged by this, the drug addict Lokesh picks up nearby stones and throws them at the policeman. This caused tension in the area.
Lokesh’s mother and members of the public immediately caught hold of him. The CCTV footage of the shops where the incident took place has gone viral on social media. It is said that after this the police took Lokesh to the police station, conducted an investigation and registered a case against the youth and sent him back with a warning.
There is a continuous problem of drug abuse in the areas of Avadi, Tirumullaivail, Poontamalli and Ambattur under the Aavadi Police Commissionerate. Therefore, social activists have demanded that the police should take appropriate measures to prevent youth from degenerating.
