Adverse effect of plastic use; Walking on footpaths

32The Environment Day event organized by Batu Divisional Secretariat in Manmunai South Eruvil of Batticaloa District was held at the assembly hall of the Divisional Secretariat recently.

During this, awareness short films related to the adverse effects of plastic use were screened and a special newsletter was also published.

Also, Kaluthavala Madhi Green Committee of the region received the appreciation for the best village level green club activities and S. Ratheesan, the village officer of the division, was honored.

In this event, which was held with the full participation of 407 officers working in the district office, appreciation was given for the creation of the best office house garden and saplings were also distributed to the children of the officers.

District secretariat officials also organized an awareness walk about plastic waste management.

This event was organized under the guidance of Mrs. Sivapiriya Wilvaratnam, Divisional Secretary of Manmunai South Eruvil, Batticaloa District, in view of this year’s National Environment Day, which is celebrated under the theme of ‘Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience’.

This walk reached public market area through Kaluvanchigudi bus station and distributed leaflets to public to raise awareness about the adverse effects of using polythene.
