A law was brought in 2021 to provide 10.5 percent internal quota for Vanniars in education and employment in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government has approached the Supreme Court to cancel the internal quota in the case and the Madurai branch of the High Court has ruled. At the same time, the Tamil Nadu government has been insisting that the Tamil Nadu government should conduct a caste-wise census and based on that, 10.5 percent reservation should be given to the Vanniars. However, recent RTI data revealed that the Vanniyar community is over 10.5 percent represented. Bamka strongly opposed this.
Speaking to the media in T.Nagar, Chennai, BAMAK president Anbumani Ramadoss said, “False news is being spread that Vanniyars are getting more than 10.5 percent reservation in education and employment. Late former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was concerned about social justice. But the current Chief Minister M. K. Stalin’s government is working against social justice,” he alleged.
He mentioned that only one of the 109 top officials in Tamil Nadu Police, including DGP, IG, belongs to the Vanniyar community, and only one of the 123 government department secretaries is a Vanniyar, and questioned why they are spreading lies as if the Vanniyars are only 0.0001% in the top positions and occupy more than 10.5% of the government jobs.
Anbumani accused that Vanniyars who got tenure through promotion were included in the seat reservation list and insisted that “a white paper should be published on the community-wise seat reservation in the MBC list since 1989″.
Also, “It gave only three ministers to the Vanniyyas who got 23 legislators. But it gave more ministers to the communities which had the least number of legislators. DMK has nothing to do with social justice,” he said.
