AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palanichamy has said that the Andhra government has built many barrages in Palar during the DMK government’s inefficient rule.
In his Samukha website post in this regard, Tirupur district is about 25 km from Udumalai. In the distance is Amaravati Dam. The height of this dam is 90 ft. It has a water capacity of 4 TMC. In 1958, the building was accelerated and opened for public use.
About 55 thousand acres of land in Tirupur and Karur districts are getting irrigation facility through this dam. Also, 110 joint drinking water projects are being implemented through Amaravati river basin. It is meeting the drinking water needs of lakhs of people.
The main tributaries of Amaravati Dam are Bambaru in Munnar district of Kerala State, Thenaru, Silanti River and Chinnaru which originate in the Western Ghats and reach Amaravati Dam. Last 10 years ago, at a place called Pattissery under Kandalur Panchayat, Kerala state, Marithuppattissery Dam was constructed to intercept the water coming to Bombay.
All the parties in Tamil Nadu strongly objected to it and took part in protests. In this case, in order to cause another shock, the Kerala government is currently building a barrage across the river Spider at a place called Peruguda in Idukki district.
It is to be noted that this river water is a part of the tributary Thenar which flows into the Amaravati Dam. If this dam is built, the amount of water coming to Amaravati Dam will decrease and the public and farmers who depend on the dam will be severely affected.
After this, the farmers of Tamil Nadu and political parties are strongly condemning this initiative. AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami has said that he strongly condemns the Kerala Communist government’s attempt to block water from the Amaravati Dam. In this regard, he has said in his X post that:-
Andhra government has built many barrages in Palaur under the incompetent regime of CM Stalin of Vidya DMK government who is keeping the river water rights of Tamil Nadu as a pledge to the neighboring states by keeping silent for the benefit of electoral coalition. The Karnataka government is trying to build a dam across the Cauvery at Meghadatu.
In this case, I strongly condemn the attempt of the Communist Government of Kerala to block the water coming to Amaravati Dam by constructing a barrage across the Spider River in Peruguda area of Idukki district of Kerala state. I urge Chief Minister Stalin of the Vidya DMK government to wake up from his slumber and take immediate legal action to uphold the rights of Tamil Nadu. mentioned.
