The death of up to 40 people due to consumption of fake liquor in Karunapuram area of Kallakurichi district has shocked the whole country. Many more are being treated in hospitals in a critical condition. The police have arrested 3 people including Kannugutty Govindaraj who sold liquor in connection with this incident.
In this context, political parties are personally meeting those who are undergoing treatment in the hospital and expressing their condolences. In that regard, BJP state president Annamalai also expressed his condolences to those who are being treated at Kallakurichi hospital. He also paid homage to the bodies of the victims of Kalacharyam and consoled their families.I
n this regard, Annamalai said on his Twitter page, “The death of liquor in Kallakurichi has left Tamil Nadu in shock and agony. There are no words to console the tears of parents who have lost their sons, women who have lost their husbands, children who have lost their fathers. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of those undergoing treatment in the hospital,” he said.
Subsequently, the families of the deceased will be given one lakh rupees each by the Tamil Nadu BJP. Annamalai also said that measures will be taken to benefit these families in the central government’s welfare schemes, including housing for the homeless and educational assistance for children.
Further, “This tragic incident has happened entirely due to the negligence of the DMK government. If the DMK is thinking that it can cover up the problem by blaming only the officials, then the BJP government will not stand idly by.”
And in a letter written by Annamalai to Home Minister Amit Shah, “I would like to bring to your attention the Kallakurichi Karunapuram Kalla Charaya casualties. A similar incident took place in Marakana in 2023. In the last two years, Tamil Nadu has lost more than 60 lives to bootleg liquor because of the DMK government’s incompetent governance.
Considering the dire situation in Tamil Nadu under the DMK rule, I request you to order a CBI investigation into the Kallakurichi incident,” he stressed.
