War, conflict and poverty have forced thousands of people to flee the country and take refuge in rich countries.
At the same time a large number of people seek education and employment in those countries with hopes of a successful future. However, many immigrants enter Australia both legally and illegally every year. Various measures are currently being taken to control the number of people going for higher education.
Accordingly, the Australian government last year announced plans to tighten its visa rules. Australia has also set a target to reduce the number of immigrants coming to the country by 50 per cent by 2025.
Meanwhile, the number of people who came to Australia on tourist visa and applied for student visa from 01 July 2023 to 01 June this year has exceeded 36 thousand.
For the second consecutive year, applications for student visas by temporary graduate visa holders increased by 30 per cent in 2022/23. It is said to disrupt the country’s student visa process and unfairly treat students entering the country with the genuine intention of pursuing higher education.
The Australian government had decided to reduce the number of post-graduation working hours under the temporary graduate visa, reduce the age limit for applying from 50 to 30, and increase English language proficiency.
