The deadline for operating omni buses with out-of-state number plates in Tamil Nadu has been extended. The ban has been extended from today (June 14, 2024). The transport department has given permission considering the weekend and Bakrit festival.
Earlier, it was alleged that 547 tourist buses with out-of-state registration numbers were being run in violation of rules in Tamil Nadu. Also, it was said that this would cause a huge loss of revenue to the government.
In this situation, the Tamil Nadu government has banned the operation of 547 omni buses that do not have National Vehicle Registration Number from June 14. The ban has now been lifted and an extension has been given till June 17.
Omni Bus Association President A. Anbazhagan said, “The operation of buses with foreign registration plates was banned earlier. A meeting chaired by the Transport Commissioner refused to lift the ban.
Later, a request was made regarding the continuous leave after meeting with the Minister of Transport. Permission is given in this case. Thanks to the Minister of Transport and the Government of Tamil Nadu,” he said.
