Due to the herd of elephants roaming on the Tirukurungudi hill path, the forest department has banned pilgrims from visiting the Tirumala Nambi temple.
Kalakadu Tiger Reserve
The ancient Thirumalai Nambi Temple is located in the dense forest in Tirukurungudi Western Ghats under the Kalakadu Tiger Reserve of Tirunelveli District. It is a special temple which is blessed by the Azhwars. It is one of the 108 Vaishnava Divya Desams.
Tirumala Nambi Temple
Devotees flock to Tirumala Nambi temple every week on Saturdays. Special worships are conducted in the temple on the last and first Saturdays of the Tamil month.
A large number of devotees visit this temple not only from Tamil Nadu but also from northern states.
Thirukurunkudi
In this situation, due to rain in the Western Ghats, water inflow was seen increasing in Nambiati. As a result, the devotees were banned from visiting the Thirukkurungudi temple on June 26. Also the flow of water in Nambiar is consistent.
Due to this, the forest department gave permission to the devotees with restrictions from last 28th.
Elephant Sanctuary
In this situation, the elephants that migrated from the small Mancholai hill area have taken refuge on the mountain path leading to Tirumala Nambi temple. Also, a herd of elephants came around the forest department check post yesterday morning. Elephants have broken the trees on the mountain path. The forest department staff are actively monitoring the movement of elephants.
Devotees are not allowed to go
As the herd of elephants have taken shelter, the forest department has again banned the pilgrims from visiting the Tirumala Nambi temple for the safety of the devotees. It is informed that permission will be given again only after the herd of elephants has gone.
