Water from Mettur Dam is released annually on 12th June for the Cauvery delta irrigation. The water was opened on this same day last year. But this year, the water level is less than 45 feet, so the water was not opened today on June 12. This is the demand of the farmers to announce the Kuruvayat Synthesis Scheme.

In this context, TTV Dhinakaran said in a statement, “Mettur Dam, which is opened every year on June 12 for delta rice cultivation, has not been opened today, which has caused great pain among the farmers.”
Mettur Dam – Allegation against Chief Minister
TTV Dhinakaran mentioned that Chief Minister M.K.Stalin had boasted that when the water level of Mettur dam was overflowing last year, he visited and opened it in person, and asked why he did not ask for Cauvery water from Karnataka for the current year, did not see the farmers in the delta region who had started cultivation of Kuruvai, and refused to listen to their demands.
Meghadatu did not condemn the issue
Dhinakaran has also criticized the shame of Chief Minister M.K.Stal’s platform of chanting about state rights, who is unable to openly condemn the Karnataka Congress government, which is trying to desert the delta areas by building the Meghadatu Dam across the Cauvery against the Supreme Court order.
Risk of food shortages
Continuing, “If the DMK government’s laxity continues in the coming times, which did not take any action to get the 100 TMC of water pending last year or to get Cauvery water completely for the current year, the delta areas will dry up and there will be food shortage in the country. Farmers will become refugees in their own state,” he expressed concern.

Further, “MK Stalin should put aside his selfishness and consider the interests of Tamil Nadu farmers and approach the Supreme Court legally. Due pressure should be given to the Karnataka government politically and steps should be taken to get full Cauvery water for Tamil Nadu. Otherwise, farmers from all over Tamil Nadu will be gathered together and a massive protest will be held on behalf of the AMU,” he warned.
