Cupboard approval has been granted to extend the safety deposit that needs to be positioned by a candidate contesting for the Presidential, Parliamentary or Provincial Council Elections, Cupboard Spokesman and Mass Media Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana stated.
Talking on the weekly Cupboard Media Convention held yesterday on the Authorities Data Division, Minister Gunawardena stated that the choice to revise the election safety deposits has been taken after contemplating the current social, political and financial state of affairs of the nation.
Accordingly the Cupboard of Ministers accredited the mixed proposal introduced by President Ranil Wickremesinghe along with Justice Minister Dr.Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe as per the provisions of the Presidential Elections Act, the Parliamentary Elections Act and the Provincial Council Elections Act. Accordingly, the deposit of a candidate from a acknowledged political social gathering shall be elevated to Rs.2.6 million and an impartial candidate to Rs.3.1 million, based on the Presidential Elections Act No.15 of 1981.
The deposit of a candidate from a acknowledged political social gathering shall be elevated to Rs.11,000 and a candidate from an impartial group to Rs.16,000, based on the Parliamentary Elections Act No. 1 of 1981. The deposit of a candidate from a acknowledged political social gathering shall be elevated to Rs.6,000 and a candidate from an impartial group to Rs.11,000, based on the Provincial Councils Elections Act No. 2 of 1988.
